ZenPhoto 1.1 Due Out November 1…

Finally, Tristan, the lead developer for the ZenPhoto gallery script has announced a release date for ZenPhoto 1.1: the day after tomorrow, November 1, 2007.
Finally, I will be able to replace the creaky Gallery2 with something a lot more usable, light…

    Hello November!…

First of all, Happy Halloween! Due to various factors, I am again before (somebody else’s) computer screen in lieu of going out trick-or-treating.
Secondly, as another new month approaches (and another month passes permanently :\), I have rumina…

Not going to happen tonight… sorry folks.

I’ve found a few show-stopping problems that I need another day or so to look at and try to fix.

In general the features are there, but that’s not what zenphoto is about… I was afraid of this.

awwww… gutted, I was really looking forward to the new version.

Is it likely to be today or is another week or so of development time going to be required be released?

No pressure of course, I would rather you released a good update rather than a shoddy one.

PS - I only found ZP yesterday and I’m so impressed I’ve already pencilled it in for two upcoming projects! :o)

    So, Tris:

You going to share with the rest of your “team” what the issues are or are you going to be a prima-donna?

  8. Mark Galeassi Commented at 8:10 am on November 2nd 2007

While the team understands your prior commitments, we do not understand the lack of communication. If there are “show-stopping” problems let us know about them. We have a trac ticketing system. We obviously care about the project but these huge problems are all but invisible to us.

Stephen - The problem is that we don’t know what the issues are, because we haven’t tested the release quite enough.

I apologize for not communicating that reasoning to you, but I was literally fixing bugs right until I walked out the door last night and just could not finish.

I’ll post more about this to the list, I’m sorry again for holding this back and not communicating why, but I just needed more time. I’m sorry.

These are the critical bugs you have been fixing?

[718] 11/02/07 18:16:51 trisweb Updated and cleaned up changelog
    [717] 11/02/07 12:30:04 trisweb Fixed formatting.
    [715] 11/01/07 21:24:43 trisweb More stylistic changes…
[714] 11/01/07 21:15:17 trisweb Improved look of EXIF display.
[713] 11/01/07 21:08:17 trisweb Fixed more CSS bugs.
[706] 11/01/07 01:06:41 trisweb The Upgrade page now says Upgrade and not Setup
[705] 11/01/07 01:02:24 trisweb Fixed spelling and HTML errors in the options page.

Nothing in this list strikes me as a show stopper.

Maybe you have been holding off on putting the fixes in the SVN. Then, of course, they are not being tested–no one but you has access to them.

As for testing, there have been many people using the SVN. Is there some directed testing you feel is necessary? Then you should describe what you need. Is it more people running the code? Do you think the number of people will change considerably in the near term?

In short, what is gong to change near term that would allow us to gage the quality of the release?

All I see is a bevy of satisfied users, no posts of problems recently and no apparent cause to delay the release. If you know different, please be more specific.

Good things come to those who wait?…

Well, as it turned out, ZenPhoto 1.1 was not released today…uh…yesterday (as I’m writing the rest of the post TODAY rather than at somewhere around midnight on 11/1).
Supposedly there are some “show-stopping” errors that n…

Stephen, please stop. You’re not helping anything. I’m releasing now, just cool your jets.
