Going Somewhere

March 9th 2006

That title is completly misleading. I’m not going anywhere special; I just didn’t want to title it “update.”

Yes, this, folks, is an obligatory update (gasp! [woman screams in background]).

Basically, I’ve been busy with school and work, and this just slips my mind. Oh well, I don’t care.

Midterms just finished (relatively well) and I’m designing a web site for an alumni organization event, which is also going well. So basically, I’ve been busy.

Lots of things have happened. But let me get the important one out of the way first: one of the best things in the world is a peanut-butter, Nutella, and banana sandwitch. It goes even better with Brie and crackers, and some sliced turkey. Oh, and pinapple cheesecake. That’s what I had for lunch yesterday, and man was it good.

Everything else is pretty boring. Just doing school and taking pictures and hanging out on all these rainy days…

Rain rain go away...

And to make this message meaningful, don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten zenphoto. The new wiki and bugtracker are installed on this sever as we speak, and we’re working on moving the Subversion repository here as well. Everything should be ready early next week! Hopefully it’ll help everyone participate better if they want to.

ok, one question for these bohring rainy days. is there some plug-in you are using for that header background scroll thing? it’s very pretty.

Is ZenPhoto really still alive? I see no SVN repository yet. I hope it hasn’t gone the way of PhotoStack – it had so much promise!

Don’t worry about ZenPhoto too much Tristan. Life only gets busier, and the important thing now is that you finish your degree. People don’t seem to appreciate the hundreds of hours of time spent developing open source projects for absolutely no compensation. It can be a real drain on your mental well-being. With that said, I just referred someone over to ZenPhoto from the Plogger forums, they were looking for albums only (we have sub-albums).

I’m confident ZenPhoto will continue to blow people away, no matter how long it takes =)

Yes, we have big plans *still* — even if it does take a little longer. Don’t forget I’m still in school–I graduate in May and after that I’ll have _much_ more time to spend on this and other projects.

So for paul–it’s still alive and well, we’re just busy right now. We do have an SVN repository at http://developer.berlios.org/projects/zenphoto but it’s about to be moved to this server. We have a bugtracker and a Wiki up just waiting to go public.

We’re busy, but it’s still very much alive.

Don’t count on having much more time after school though, after I graduated and got a job, I had far less time than before.

I’m sure you will get a fabulous job offer right out of college and end up working a nice 40 – 50 hour work week.

Either way, good luck to you ;)

Job? I’m starting a company! (Ha ha) ;-)

  8. Mike Commented at 1:25 pm on April 1st 2006

Well then, take that 40 – 50 hours / week and double it =)

    :) OK, funny. What’s the plugin? :)

Oh, sorry simonas — it’s not a plugin; just some simple image-changing javascript. All of the borders and logo/etc are built-in to the images. I’d be happy to send you the code if you really want, but you’ll need to know PHP and Javascript to customize it…

  11. + simonas Commented at 12:32 am on April 4th 2006

hey tristan. :-) i know some php, but no javascript, so i will probably install k2 theme, heavily customize it and will have changing images on the header. mind you, the person will have to reload for the images to change.

anyhow. keep up the good work. i’m tempted to install the galery now. flickr kind of works and reduces the space on my server, but i guess that’s becoming a non-issue every day.
