Zenphoto update (and WP2)

January 5th 2006

First, I upgraded to Wordpress 2.0 fairly smoothly, and I have to ask, how exactly did they manage to make the admin interface uglier than it was before? I don’t mean to be harsh… I like most of the rest of it–except the image upload addition–it will drive me to create a ZP-WP plugin to replace it ASAP.

Anyway, zenphoto development has been very active recently. You can all thank Todd Papaioannou for his hard work on drag-n-drop sorting. Take a look at his posts describing the new features on his site. I think I can improve the interface a bit, but the functionality is all there and working beautifully.

We’re planning on a release early next week with sorting, image and album deletion in the control panel, e-mail comment notification, and possibly RSS as well. Keep checking here for more updates.

Tristan, enormous thanks to you and Todd for the work so far - it’s superb, both installation / customisation and end use. :o)

I have done some searching and for the most part I am on the site almost every day checking for updates and am really looking forward to 1.0. I was wondering if there was some sorta notification list that I can sign up to to receive notifications of version releases. I host several zen galleries for friends and myself and would really like to know asap of version updates..
And like everyone else says.. thank you for the gallery, it is excellent, full featured and simple.. keep up the good work

    RSS on the move

I dunno.. sometimes code just seems to pour out. I started working on RSS feeds for zenphoto. It’s still early days yet, but it’s coming along nicely. Check this one out for starters. Of course, I want to add more functionality for feeds of…

zenphoto is one of the best galleries. I’ve tried to run gallery2, and spent several days to create a theme, however when I found zenphoto, I deleted gallery2. But zenphoto does not support sub-categories, and I just can’t wait for the 1.0 version. And I rewrite all the php classes, but use your theme. now it supports subcategories and looks like the same as yours. check the demo site: http://blog.dukechina.org/ezg/

Wei Chen some great work there. Perhaps you can share you code with the developers so they can add it. I tested the demo @ your site and it works/looks great.

I would really want something like this in ZenP

Wei Chen, interesting work, but I’d much rather you had worked on the original code so we could integrate it better into Zenphoto. If you truly feel like forking at this point, that’s up to you, but rest assured sub-galleries and other features you want can be easily done with the current model.

Also, it seems like you’ve bypassed the image processing as it’s done in ZP… pity, I always thought that was the best part.

Also, just a technicality, but something you shouldn’t overlook– there is no license yet included in Zenphoto. Hence, you should have asked first. That aside, the license _should_ be included, so it’s perfectly fine. :) Just work with us next time! (That goes for everyone!)
