Moving Day
Wednesday, January 25th, 2006
Just a heads-up that I’m moving trisweb.com (and zenphoto.org, and all my other various domains) to a new server. This one’s been great, but how can you pass up a dedicated server?
Downtime could be unpredictable and sporadic as the change happens, so I apologize in advance. I’ll try to get zenphoto.org stable first, which should be easy.
Other than that, not much happening. You shouldn’t even notice the change.
Update
Sunday, January 22nd, 2006
I’m finally all set to finish my degree at UC Berkeley this semester. I’m just taking two classes (lucky me): CS188 (Artificial Intelligence) and Engineering 195 (a technical writing seminar—”Science, Technology, and Society”). And that’s it, I’ve got a degree after that!
Sort of scary, yes, but I’m getting used to the idea, and I’ve got opportunities lining up already. Some are more lucrative than others, some more fun and influential; we’ll see where they take me.
Bottom line: I’ve only got class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I have a car. That means 4-day weekends and nothing to do (sometimes), so more road trips and camping and taking pictures and other fun stuff… and yes, working on zenphoto and other projects.
This should be a good semester.
Also, new pictures from stuff are in the photo galleries. Have a look see.
zenphoto 1.0beta
Wednesday, January 11th, 2006
I’m happy to announce the release of the zenphoto 1.0 beta! This release brings a lot of hard work from a new member of the team, Todd Papaioannou. Since he did most of the work for this release (and he did, believe me) I’ll let him do the explaining.
Head to luckyspin.org for his post,
Or go straight to zenphoto.org to grab the release.
My very own car!
Sunday, January 8th, 2006
I finally got a car to drive!
And that’s not it! (Awww…) That’s my dad’s new car (a 2001 Audi A4 in beautiful condition… a really friggin awesome car that he deserves and will enjoy much more than I could, but only by a little) leaving me with his old one:
A 1991 Honda Accord wagon, also (believe it or not) in beautiful condition. We just got it detailed, and it got a new paint job a few months ago, so it’s looking great. Tomorrow it goes into the shop for maintennance (a new timing belt, among other things) so it’s all set for the trek up to Berkeley on Wednesday (yes, a zenphoto release is due before then).
I spent several hours cleaning it even after it got back from being cleaned (yeah, I’m a perfectionist) and my greatest accomplishment was fixing the cupholder, which was forever stuck in the out position until I came along. Now it does the cool smooth opening action when you press it.
It’s a good car, even with 180,000 miles on it. It should have about that much to go too if I take care of it. Gotta love those Hondas…
Zenphoto update (and WP2)
Thursday, January 5th, 2006
First, I upgraded to Wordpress 2.0 fairly smoothly, and I have to ask, how exactly did they manage to make the admin interface uglier than it was before? I don’t mean to be harsh… I like most of the rest of it—except the image upload addition—it will drive me to create a ZP-WP plugin to replace it ASAP.
Anyway, zenphoto development has been very active recently. You can all thank Todd Papaioannou for his hard work on drag-n-drop sorting. Take a look at his posts describing the new features on his site. I think I can improve the interface a bit, but the functionality is all there and working beautifully.
We’re planning on a release early next week with sorting, image and album deletion in the control panel, e-mail comment notification, and possibly RSS as well. Keep checking here for more updates.
