zenphoto 0.3.5 - “admin/1234″
July 30th 2005
Before I go off on vacation (camping in Yosemite NP; Tuolumne Meadows, not the overcrowded valley) I thought I’d post another demo.
This time, I’m mainly showing off the administration pages. The Overview screen is like WordPress’s dashboard, but with useful information instead of slow RSS feeds. Comments obviously (eventually) will show all your comments, with edit/delete/moderate options. Upload (currently disabled for all you) is my favorite part—you have to try it out. First, the folder is auto-generated from the typed name by default (with graceful conflict handling and/or notification, even if you type your own—try typing “Space”), and better: no more having to reload the page to get more upload boxes. Last but not least, Edit allows you to mass-edit things on any level; album info, and image info in albums.

The public part hasn’t changed except that you have to log in in order to AJAX edit titles and descriptions. It will change a lot soon though, with a new default template by Joen Asmussen, who started me on this whole project in the first place.
We’re gearing up for a release. After I get back from vacation, I have a week before school takes over, and I plan to have it ready then. That’s 3 weeks folks. I’ve got the domain and a berlios account ready.
Now, off to Yosemite.

Wow! Good job!
I think I just came in my sweatpants, good job!
Very impressive! I’d be glad to contribute another theme and do the French localisation, if you’re interested.
The upload page is very nice, but I was wondering if there could be an option that lets you select multiple files at once from the file browser. It seems easier than having to select individual files for each input box.
Have fun at Yosemite!
Thank you Tinus… and Anders, that’s just gross man.
Stephane, je parle un peu de franais aussi, but I’ll let you do the localization anyway.
I’m going to be a typical English speaker for now though, and try to get a release out just in English.
Also, the multiple file boxes are a limitation of browsers—you can’t have a single box with multiple files unfortunately.
Try A ZIP file! If you have 7-Zip, it’s just a right-click to group them all together.
Sweet stuff!
Have fun on the trip.
Just a Feature Request: Once you implement themes, put in the ability to theme on a per album basis. That way I could have my gallery page and most of my albums styled using one theme, and have one or more other albums styled/themed totally different.
The reason for this request is that I wanted to make an album with a picture taken at the same spot once a day for a year, and I would like this to have a different layout than the normal gallery->album->picture way a gallery usually is, at the same time I’d want to have normal albums with everyday pictures.
I hope you see what I mean, and although it’s not a must have feature, it would be really cool.
Other than that, zenphoto looks spanking. Can’t wait to see the new admin area.
Very very cool Tristan. It looks great. Let me know if you need me to give some love to that admin area, I’ll jump right on it.
As for Jonas request, I’d second it, as it’s a good idea. However, could that be made into a plugin instead? I like the idea of a simple core, but extensible like Firefox. Just a thought.
When do you expect to add the Zenphoto files to the BerliOS Developer repository, or is there any other way to track the development process, and test the software? I’d really like to do some testing of Zenphoto, and to assist with bug reports and feature suggestions. I’ve been evaluating a number of the gallery alternatives and I’m very impressed with your work so far. One other question, though: what type of MySQL tables are used with Zenphoto?
This gets better and better every day Tristan! I can’t wait until you release it.
Vacation? Wait, I don’t remember saying you could go on vacation?
Ha. Have fun. We’ll be waiting not-so-patiently, I presume!
Hey there
Add me to the ppl waiting for this to me released. I am specifically looking for itscompatibility and usefulness with WordPress….
All the best—Vish
looks great—worthy of the name. every time i contemplate upgrading my wp installation from lazygallery to something more elegantly structured, i click by here and check out your gallery and decide to wait.
