Wingtip Sunset
Monday, November 29th, 2004

Flying back from Thanksgiving at home I was in this little rickety twin prop plane. As you can see, I was right over the wing, so it was more like an hour-long butt massage. Not a bad flight though, and luckily enough, even though I was getting over a cold, the pressure didn’t kill me.
What a sequence of transportation though! We drove to the airport (Santa Barbara, just the nicest little municipal airport ever), hopped on the plane, got off the plane at SFO in the dinky Sky West terminal out in the boonies, took a shuttle to the main terminal (the same one I left from, which brought a nice sense of closure), then a “moving walkway” across the airport, took two escalators from the baggage claim to the AirTrain station, took the “AirTrain” two stops to the BART station, took BART one station and transfered to another train, got off in Berkeley, took an escalator up to the bus stop, hopped on the bus and got off two blocks from my house.
Whew! The lesson: public transportation works in the bay area.
Thanksgiving
Thursday, November 25th, 2004
Hope everyone’s having an excellent Thanksgiving day, surrounded by friends and family. All I have to say is that the Thanksgiving meal at my house has a wonderful distinctive taste that I always have to come home for, and I hope I always will.
The last two days have been wonderful. It’s amazing how two little words can change your mood so quickly for the better, even if you know it might not always last. Thank you. I say it too much sometimes, especially when I’m nervous, but it’s true. Thank you everyone who has touched my life this past year, it has been a great one that I look forward to finishing with you all.
Happy Holidays; you may now start listening to Christmas music.
Music

First, here are three albums released in the last year which have quickly (like, over the last week) become favorites.

Snow Patrol – Final Straw
The Postal Service – Give Up
Jimmy Eat World – Futures (which I have reviewed previously)
Before coming to college, I didn’t have a taste for popular music. I think that was a good thing. I got my basis in music from real music—jazz (lots of jazz) and folk and classical. Whatever my parents listened to, I listened to, and I still share some taste with them. I still listen to everything I used to. Music never leaves you; if you like something once you’ll like it for all time, and it will only continue to be more nostalgic, weighted by the memoies of the circumstances of each time you listened to it.
Only recently have I become interested in “new” music. Read the rest of this entry »
New Headers
Thursday, November 11th, 2004
I’ve changed the header images for Winter 2004, so flip through them and enjoy. You may also notice you’ll see a semi-random image—a new one will come about every 5 minutes. You have no idea how long it took me to find a simple little algorithm to do that… my brain is still fried after my CS midterm.
Study!

Ever get the feeling the world is trying to tell you to do something? I’ve messaged my entire buddy list and none of them are responding, I checked my e-mail and there are no new messages, google news has nothing, slashdot is boring, and I can’t play Halo 2 yet (it’s torture I’m telling you!).
This and I have a midterm tomorrow night. I feel moderately prepared, which is all I really want to be. I think I can fudge it up to, let’s say, medium-well prepared (like a steak) by tomorrow. But right now I think I should just go to sleep.
New music today: The Postal Service – Give Up [iTunes]. Mezmerizing and addictive, emotionally light and beautifully orchestrated, with extremely well-written lyrics and a calming comforting voice.
On the lighter side…
