Republicans for Kerry Bumper Sticker

Saturday, August 7th, 2004

A friend of mine surprised the hell out of me this summer — he is a republican by design; an Italian mafia type businessman who was super-conservative in high school, and was very interesting in government class (albeit an internet-taught AP government class) — but this summer, he told me he was voting for Kerry.

“Why?” I asked.

“Bush is bad for business” He explained, and it makes sense.

So, this is for him. It’s something he mentioned in passing the other day, and I thought about it today, and it was too good to pass up donating my design skills to the cause. I hope it goes to a good purpose. Please, spread it around.

We Misunderestimated Him

Friday, August 6th, 2004

The latest installment of misspeak from a president long known for his malapropisms came during a signing ceremony for a new $417 billion defense appropriations bill that includes $25 billion in emergency funding for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we,” Bush said.

Update: Image Switcher

Friday, August 6th, 2004

I’ve added a little image switcher in the header so you can see all of the beautiful header images. Note that I’m not pre-loading them however, so it may take a second to load each one.

I won’t have any time to work on this site over the next couple weeks — I have four others to work on, not to mention packing and preparing to return to the daily grind — but when I do find the time to finish it, the content database is constructed and working, and just needs to be integrated and styled up. Then the real fun begins — writing stuff.

I have changed a couple of things in the last couple days, including the comment display, the wording of the comment form, and some other little stuff. So, if you haven’t in a while, hit the “refresh” button to get the latest stylesheets.

Note: I just noticed that my hovering javascript devalidated the XHTML. Not that it really matters, as many people have discussed, but I’ll change it to a CSS rollover soon.

Tuolumne Meadows

Wednesday, August 4th, 2004

Yosemite, for those who don’t know, is a National Park in California. It is an altogether different and wonderful place; as John Muir said, “Nowhere will you see the majestic operations of Nature more clearly revealed beside the frailest, most gentle and peaceful things.”

It’s a great place, and I like to call it my second home (well, third home now). We camp at Tuolumne Meadows, which is on the eastern side of the park, a good ways away from the famous valley, which is unfortunately overrun with tourists. So we go to Tuolumne, which is a true alpine wilderness camp at 8,000 feet. The bears, cold nights and lack of easily-accessible waterfalls are enough to keep most of the more touristy-types away, but for those who truly appreciate the wilderness, it’s the place to be.

Hikes are plentiful and rewarding; you can always find someplace you haven’t been before, and if you’re determined enough, probably someplace few people have ever seen.

I don’t have my photo album set up yet, so until then, try this site, which has some decent pictures and descriptions of the area. I will definately get those photos up soon, and if you haven’t noticed, the top image has changed, so I reccomend you refresh the page to see it.
