We Misunderestimated Him
August 6th 2004
The latest installment of misspeak from a president long known for his malapropisms came during a signing ceremony for a new $417 billion defense appropriations bill that includes $25 billion in emergency funding for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we,” Bush said.

I really don’t see the relavence of Bush misspeaking. So what if he misses a word or two. Things like that happen from time to time…and to both candidates. Why is it that the media creates a double standard. When Kerry misspeaks, it’s no big deal, but when Bush mispeaks, everyone is up in arms. Kerry recently misspoke during the DNC about our special forces conducting “terrorist opperations”, when what he meant to say was “anti-terrorist opperations”. Here is the audio.
I don’t think either misspeak is a big deal. Things like that happen from time to time, and we know that neither Bush nor Kerry meant to say those few misspoken words. So why the big attack on Bush?
I was actually quoting Yahoo directly, so if you have something to say, take it up with them…
I just thought it was funny. If Kerry said something that funny, I’d post about it too, but his misspeaks are sort of stumbles, and he recovers well, and they hardly ever happen.
Though I do agree that Bush gets all the flac, you have to admit that he does do it a lot. And you also must agree that compared to recent presidents (Clinton) Pres. Bush cannot speak. Watching Clinton speak at the DNC, I thought, ‘wow, Bush couldn’t even stumble over that sentence.’ A mastery of the English language is a sign of intelligence, my friend.
It’s just another thing. You’re right, neither misspeak matters. I just thought it was funny, and it wasn’t meant to be a “big attack” — I’m not voting against Bush because he can’t speak, or because he misspeaks, or because his face looks funny or whatever. I’m voting against him because of his fundamentally flawed policies on human rights, welfare, taxes, and the war. I encourage you to look at the facts and reach your own conclusion, and not be misguided by what anyone says about the President, or about your feelings of patriotism, or by the media. Look at what really matters. Thanks for reading.
